Weight Management Dietitian

A sustainable approach to weight and health — focused on nutrition quality, eating patterns and realistic behaviour change rather than crash diets.

Weight management without another crash diet

Weight is influenced by more than willpower. Health, medication, sleep, appetite, food access, stress, culture, eating patterns and previous dieting experiences can all affect what is realistic and sustainable.

Dietitians Australia recognises that weight-related care needs to account for biological, psychological, behavioural, social and cultural factors, not simply prescribe a calorie target.

At Karma Nutrition, the focus is on changes you can continue after the motivation of a new diet has worn off.

What we can work on

Depending on your goals and clinical situation, appointments may include:

Behaviour matters as much as the meal plan

Knowing what to eat and consistently doing it are different problems. Shilpi’s additional behavioural training can be used to explore routines, triggers, all-or-nothing thinking and barriers that repeatedly derail otherwise sensible plans.

The aim is not psychotherapy within a dietetic appointment. It is to use behaviour-change tools appropriately within nutrition care so the plan is more likely to work in everyday life.

No compulsory meal plan

Some people find a written meal structure useful; others do better with flexible principles and specific changes to their existing meals. A detailed written meal plan can be prepared when it is clinically useful and requested, rather than being automatically handed to every patient.

Your first consultation

We review your health history, eating pattern, previous weight-loss attempts, activity, schedule, household food environment and what you actually want to change. Together, these become a small number of practical priorities with a review plan rather than an unrealistic total lifestyle overhaul.

Gold Coast or telehealth

Appointments are available at Gold Coast clinics in Arundel, Currumbin Waters and Biggera Waters and by telehealth Australia-wide. You can book privately without a referral; eligible Medicare GPCCMP and DVA pathways may also apply. See the fees page.
