How Much Does a Dietitian Cost on the Gold Coast?

The cost of seeing a dietitian on the Gold Coast depends on how you are attending, whether you have an eligible referral, and whether Medicare, DVA or private health insurance contributes.

At Karma Nutrition, private consultations currently start from $199. You do not need a GP referral to book privately.

Private dietitian appointment

A private appointment can be booked directly without seeing your GP first.

At Karma Nutrition:

• private consultations start from $199
• body composition analysis is $80 as an additional service
• written meal plans or diet charts can be prepared on request for an additional fee

Can Medicare cover a dietitian?

Some people with chronic conditions may be eligible for MBS-supported allied health services under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP).

Eligible patients can access up to five individual MBS-supported allied health services per calendar year, shared across the eligible allied health providers involved in the plan. A GP or prescribed medical practitioner referral is required.

That does not automatically mean five dietitian appointments if you are also using services such as physiotherapy, podiatry or another eligible allied health profession.

At Karma Nutrition a gap fee applies for Medicare-referred appointments; ask at booking for the current amount.

What happened to EPC plans?

“EPC” is still commonly used in conversation and search, but the current pathway changed on 1 July 2025.

The former GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangement system was replaced by the GP Chronic Condition Management Plan. Patients with qualifying older plans prepared before 1 July 2025 have transition arrangements through 30 June 2027.

Your GP can tell you which pathway applies to you.

What about DVA?

Karma Nutrition accepts eligible DVA Gold Card patients with a doctor’s referral and bills those eligible services directly, with no out-of-pocket fee to the patient for the covered service.

Check your referral and eligibility when booking.

Can private health insurance pay anything?

Many Australian private health policies include dietetics under extras cover, but rebates vary substantially by insurer and policy level.

Before your appointment, ask your health fund:

• whether your policy includes dietetics
• what rebate applies to an initial and review consultation
• whether annual limits apply
• whether telehealth dietetics is covered under your policy

Is the cheapest dietitian the best option?

Price is only one part of the decision. Also consider whether the dietitian has experience relevant to your reason for attending, whether the appointment format suits you, and whether the advice can realistically fit your culture, household and medical needs.

If you are attending privately, you can book without a GP referral. If you hope to use Medicare, speak with your GP first about whether a GPCCMP and allied health referral are appropriate.
